From food packaging to rain jackets, many everyday materials contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), chemicals that resist water, grease, and stains but persist in the environment and in our bodies.
The ZeroF project, coordinated by VTT and funded by the European Union and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation, has spent the past three years developing PFAS-free coatings and evaluating them through the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework.
Its goal: to demonstrate that it is possible to combine performance, safety, and environmental responsibility in packaging and textiles.
